Towards a socio-semiotic indisciplinarity
constructing a theoretical-analytical interface between Systemic-Functional Linguistics and Applied Linguistics

The main goal of this paper is to propose a theoretical and analytical dialogue between Systemic-Functional Linguistics (Halliday, 1994) and Indisciplinary Applied Linguistics (Moita Lopes, 2013). In order to do so, the epistemological and conceptual bases structuring the areas are outlined, being highlighted the view of language advocated by both fields. Based on this framework of ideas and conceptions, the convergences and complementarities between both linguistic frameworks are discussed with the aim of establishing the foundation for an interface between both theoretical lines. Being covered this pathway of discussions, an analytical example using the interface between Systemic-Functional Linguistics, with the aid of the Appraisal System (Martin; White, 2005), and Applied Linguistics is presented in order to illustrate the dialogue model advocated in the paper and the possibilities of this entanglement. As evidenced by the analytical work highlighted, the intertwining between both theoretical frameworks offers an analytical toolkit composed of useful categories that can map the linguistic data with high level of systematicity and, at the same time, make viable the study of discursive phenomena beyond its linguistic materiality.
