Abstract

This paper aims to describe the bilingual and bidirectional dictionary jisho. As an object of study in Lexicography, dictionaries are indispensable resources for both foreign language learners and professionals such as translators and other language experts. In this context, the article examines Jisho's macrostructure and microstructure, using Faulstich's (2011) "Guide for the Assessment of Dictionaries and Glossaries" as a framework. The analysis aims to assess its suitability as a language-learning tool for Japanese students, considering the adequacy criteria proposed by Müller-Spitzer and Koplenig (2014). Preliminarily, it has been found that Jisho possesses a set of features that make it a suitable resource for learners of Japanese, such as a wealth of lexical information, access to supplementary materials, and long-term availability.
