The growing movement of internationalization within Brazilian universities has been characterized by a diversity of institutional actions linked to cooperation agreements between higher education institutions, as well as by local practices of linguistic and cultural interaction experienced in various situations within the university environment, including virtual exchanges (Rampazzo; Moore, 2024). Although academic mobility programs at the undergraduate level are still a goal for students (Stallivieri, 2017), the implementation of other "internationalization experiences" at universities creates effective spaces for languages and cultures to come into contact and broadens the concept of what it means to internationalize higher education (Leask, 2015; Hudzik, 2020; Knight, 2020). It is within this context that the project "Échange virtuel en Langue Française" (EVILAF) is situated. This initiative brings together undergraduate French Language students from six Brazilian public universities to take part in a virtual exchange experience conducted in French and mediated by digital tools in the Teletandem modality (O'Dowd, 2019).The objectives of the project were as follows: i) to promote online interactions in French among French language students; ii) to analyze the characteristics of these interactions and their potential for the development and enhancement of linguistic and cultural competencies as part of the participants’ university education; iii) to encourage reflection on what virtual exchange means in the context of Brazilian higher education as one of the “internationalization experiences” available to students, marked by immersion in the French language. The implementation of the project and its methodology followed a qualitative and interpretive approach. Data on the experience were collected through participant evaluations recorded after each session using a specific form. This action contributes to the internationalization efforts of Brazilian universities and to the linguistic and cultural education in French of French Language students, who reinterpret the importance of their training in the language and its related cultures as an international experience within each of their universities.
