On the political utility of aesthetic manners (criticism, controversy, democracy)

In this paper, we present and evaluate Gerald Graff’s program of “teaching the conflicts” by drawing on case studies in “critical controversy”. We contrast it with our own pedagogical proposition of development of critical competence aiming at a democratic culture.
