Os Estudos Cognitivos da Tradução (ECT) têm utilizado a abordagem da performance especializada (APE) para investigar a expertise por aproximadamente duas décadas (Ericsson, 2000; Shreve, 2002). No entanto, os debates atuais sobre a tradução como uma atividade incorporada, estendida, emergente, situada e afetiva desafiam o status quo da APE, especialmente devido ao seu foco principal em explicar a expertise apenas em condições laboratoriais (ver Muñoz, 2014, 2017). Além disso, apelos por revisitações epistemológicas levaram pesquisadores a questionar a clareza, adequação, consistência e eficácia de alguns construtos e tradições de pesquisa na disciplina, incluindo a própria noção de expertise (ver Marín, 2017, 2019). Este capítulo apresenta nossas primeiras reflexões sobre uma possível reconciliação entre a APE e uma abordagem de orientação sociológica, nomeadamente a abordagem da expertise interacional (AEI), que se fundamenta nas noções de linguagem e socialização como aspectos essenciais da expertise (ver Collins & Evans, 2007). O quadro teórico resultante pretende fornecer aos ECT uma base necessária para investigar a tradução tanto em condições laboratoriais quanto em situações reais. Espera-se também que ele avance nossa compreensão da expertise, ancorando-a em uma fundamentação epistemológica que seja consistente com os ECT e inter/transdisciplinar – ou seja, capaz de dialogar e fornecer contribuições a outras disciplinas igualmente interessadas no estudo da expertise.
