Abstract

This article discusses the different meaning constructions of the women’s body, based on three forró lyrics analysis, of different performers: “Cintura fina”, “Morena Tropicana” and “Mulher Madura”. The Cognitive Linguistics studies were used to investigate how the metaphor, metonymy and cultural models were placed in the songs, according to researches of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), Feltes (2018), Kovecses (2004; 2005), Shanghai (2009) and Teixeira (2001). As a result, it was discovered that different concepts, in the lyrics of forró songs, metonymically, refer to only parts of the women’s body, instead of the whole body and the metaphors used refer to cultural models marked by sexist characteristics and female subordination.
