Communicative competence and teaching Portuguese as a second language
an analysis of the subcompetences used by an advanced student

The objective of this article is to identify components of the Communicative Competence (CC) used by an advanced Portuguese as a Second Language speaker. The student was exposed to a real-life situation for language, conducted by a semi-structured interview, with the aim of creating a natural environment. By using the model proposed by Almeida Filho in 2009, we explain each one of the subcomponents of CC that are used by the speaker throughout the interview. The aim of this paper is to materialize the concepts related to CC, showing the learner’s cognitive process to acquire a new language.Downloads
