According to Liddell (2003), there are verbs in American Sign Language, ASL, which have the property of depicting (showing) visual and topographic properties of entities. Liddell proposes three categories of depicting verbs: one refers to verbs that depict the presence of an entity in a place; the second one, the shape and extension of a surface or the extension of a linear arrangement of individual entities and, finally, the third category includes verbs that depict the movement or handling of entities. The goal of this work was to identify, describe and analyze depicting signs in Libras. To do so, we analyzed, with ELAN, one retelling in Libras of the “Pear story” by a deaf signer from the city of São Paulo. As a result, we identified 35 depicting signs. Their analysis required the creation of a new category to group simultaneous constructions in which different depicting signs are produced at the same time, one on each hand. Furthermore, this analysis showed formal differences, compared to ASL, in the class of signs that depict size and extent of entities.
