Abstract

The aim of this research is to verify the relation between the explicit work with morphological awareness and vocabulary acquisition of teenager English learners as additional language. Researches as Jornlin (2015), Akbulut (2017) and Alsaeedi (2017), among others, show that morphological awareness has a fundamental role in learning English as an additional language. To reach the research objective, an intervention organized around original games and playful activities was implemented. The participants were teenagers enrolled in an extension course at the Additional Languages Center at the Federal University of Pampa. The intervention occurred in the first semester of 2019, during the period of ten weeks. The results, obtained through pre-tests and post-tests of morphological awareness and vocabulary, show that the students obtained gains in relation to morphological awareness and expanded their vocabulary knowledge. Therefore, the research suggests that the intervention played a significant role in the teaching-learning process of English as an additional language.
