This article aims to describe and analyze some aspects of language as system of signs presented in the Course in General Linguistics. The purpose is to bring reflections on the context of additional language teaching, discussing differences between the system of American English language and the system of the Portuguese language. The theory of language as a system of signs helps to understand the differences between the systems. As a result, that understanding enables to develop a cultural sensitivity of the differences as something positive and helps to seek ways to cross borders that can separate different modes of producing senses.Downloads
