This article analyses middle constructions used in scientific articles in different areas, randomly collected from the Scielo platform. According to the Systemic-functional perspective (Halliday 1985, 1994) and Halliday & Matthiessen (2004), the constructions found are analyzed, describing the choices of Medium in the context of the articles. The constructions were obtained through a computer program WordSmith Tools (Scott, 2008) that can be used with a large number of texts. The analysis shows that the ergative constructions are used in different sections in the articles, hiding the identity of the author or other authors mentioned in the texts.
