This article aims to analyze the functioning of argumentation in debates of some sports TV shows. We assume that, although every text has an argumentative dimension, it is in strictu sensu argumentative texts, according nomenclature by Travaglia (1991), that we can identify, with a more manifest regularity, types of recurring arguments. Considering this perspective, Argumentative Semantics deals with several typological categorizations derived both from the Classical Rhetoric as the so-called New Rhetoric. Our hypothesis is based on the idea that in debates about soccer in TV shows, besides presenting some types of arguments with recurrence, the question of the ethos plays a crucial role. To develop this discussion, we will explore a counterpoint between the debates of two sports TV shows, one of the broadcast television and one of the cable television, in order to discuss the different constitutions of images of enunciators into these situations of argumentation.
