The popularity of social network sites has resulted in the emergence of new discursive genres, natives to the digital world. This is the case of the meme, increasingly present in online communications. This paper presents a brief overview of the appearance of the concept and the memes, which serves as the basis for the analysis of this new form of interaction between individuals. In order to make a survey of meme's main characteristics as a discursive genre, this research is based on Bakhtin's concepts and on some ideas of Charaudeau, Moirand, Marcuschi and Fiorin. About the conception of meme, we consulted works of Dawkins, Recuero and Martino. The results show us that the meme has the purpose of manifesting a position or doing a comment about some event, in a light and humorous way. In addition, we could see that the reference to the fact that motivated the creation of the meme is fundamental concerning the fidelity of the copy and can be maintained in the visual and in the verbal elements.Downloads
