A influência da segmentação linguística na recepção de legendas para surdos e ensurdecidos (LSE) em documentários televisivos

Abstract

This paper aims at presenting the results of an investigation on the influence of linguistic segmentation in subtitles with low (145 words per minute) and high (180 words per minute) rates. In order to approach this question, one study was organized in two phases having as a corpus excerpts of documentary TV programs. The first phase has verified the processing cost on eye movements of two-line subtitles, at both mentioned rates, in well and ill segmented sentences. The second one has aimed at observing if the answers of the participants to reports and questionnaires would indicate the influence of linguistic segmentation during the reception of the subtitles. The research had 16 participants, 8 deaf and 8 hearing viewers, watching four different parts of documentary TV programs, with the SDH being manipulated in four different experimental conditions: slow and well segmented (LBS), slow and ill segmented (LMS), fast and well segmented (RBS) and fast and ill segmented (RMS). Statistic data has revealed that the RBS condition was the most comfortable for both hearing and deaf viewers. These results suggest that linguistic segmentation problems influence both subtitle reading processing and comfort during the reception of the documentary TV programs.

Patrícia Araújo Vieira é Professora Assistente da Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) do curso Letras Libras. Tem mestrado e doutorado em Linguística Aplicada, tendo como foco de pesquisa a leitura e o ensino do português como segunda língua para surdos e também acessibilidade aos meios audiovisuais aos surdos e ensurdecidos por meio de legendagem para surdos e ensurdecidos.

Vera Lúcia Santiago Araújo é Professora Associada da Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE), onde atua no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Linguística Aplicada. Tem como foco de pesquisa a acessibilidade aos meios audiovisuais de pessoas com deficiência sensorial por meio da legendagem para surdos e ensurdecidos e audiodescrição. Este artigo apresenta resultados parciais de seu projeto de produtividade financiado pelo CNPq.
