This study aims to notice and describe cases of code-switching in the speech of Pole-Brazilians in the county of Aurea / RS. In order to do that, the participants’ speech examples are analysed in the light of the ideas of Poplack (2004); Appel e Muysken (2005); Lüdi (2004); King e Mackey (2007); Muysken (2007, 2011); Macswan (2004); Myers-Scotton (1998); Hamers e Blanc (2004), among others, who write about the phenomenon of code-switching, which is the use of more than one language during a single communication event. We could observe that this is a recurring phenomenon in the speech of bilingual individuals, which was observed in Áurea/RS. This city stands out for the large number of Pole immigrants’ descendants and for the title of “Brazilians’ Polish Capital. The examples presented in this study come from a conversation in Polish and Portuguese varieties between a mother (74 years old) and a daughter (49 years old). We registered the examples in the fieldwork notebook from the observation of spontaneous and informal conversations in a domestic environment. Due to the absence or even lack of linguistic studies related to the local Polish variety, this study, perhaps a pioneer study, becomes relevant, because it not only proves that people speak the variety in the city but also highlights the occurrence of code-switching events, which are recurrent in situations of language contact.
