Within the context of Psycholinguistics Applied to Education (Maia, 2018), this article investigates the impacts of Instagram use on the development of oral production among Portuguese-Spanish bilinguals, with an emphasis on Global Oral Proficiency (GOP), as well as these learners’ perceptions of this educational experience mediated by digital technology. The research focuses on understanding how the pedagogical use of this social network can enhance oral skills in a second language (L2), considering the learners’ active role and the integration of digital tools—especially Instagram—into teaching practice. To provide a theoretical foundation for the study, the Theory of Meaningful Learning (TML) (Ausubel, 2003) and the Task-Based Approach (Willis, 1996) were adopted, both of which emphasize the importance of engaging students in contextualized, motivating activities centered on the meaning attributed to the content. The study was conducted with 42 participants from the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte—Natal Historic Center Campus, organized into two groups: the experimental group (EG), which used Instagram for classroom tasks, and the active control group (ACG), which performed tasks on the same theme as the EG but without using the social media platform. The study adopted a quantitative-qualitative methodological approach (Dörnyei, 2007), using pre- and post-tests to assess participants’ oral production performance and, specifically in the EG, exploring their perceptions through the analysis of word clouds generated from their responses. The results indicate a statistically significant improvement in the oral production skills of participants in the GE group compared to those in the ACG group following the Instagram intervention. Furthermore, the perceptions of the learners who used the platform were predominantly positive. Based on this, we emphasize the relevance of Instagram as an effective tool for promoting meaningful pedagogical practice aligned with the needs and interests of contemporary students.
