Kant and enlightenment: the task of education in these dark times

Abstract: This paper seeks to analyze the relevance of Immanuel Kant's thinking on Enlightenment, especially about the task of education in times of crisis and polarization. Starting with the famous question, what is Enlightenment? we explore the centrality of reason, autonomy, and individual freedom in the Enlightenment project. We then investigate how education is configured as a fundamental praxis for human emancipation and for overcoming minority, a key concept in Kantian philosophy. By analyzing contemporary challenges, such as misinformation, relativism, and authoritarianism, we seek to draw parallels with Kant's historical context, rescuing the importance of education for the construction of a more just, rational, and enlightened society.
