Abstract

At the first part of the present paper, we shall introduce the ethical and political elements further discussed by Max Weber and the young Lukács from 1914 to 1920. The aim of this review is to illuminate the evidence of a possible influence from the writings of Dostoyevsky on the theme in between their polemics on the ethical irrationality of reality. After reviewing both authors approach on the conflict between the ethics of conviction and the ethics of responsibility, we shall identify the practical imperatives rose by their historical-political context: the end of World War I in the context before and after the Russian Revolution. The article intends to expose the parallels between the work of Dostoyevsky: The Brothers Karamazov facing the considerations of Max Weber. In future research, the developments of these same themes will be reviewed in the writings of Lukács and in the notes for his book on Dostoyevsky.
