This article explores the relationship between beauty and ugliness, seeking to understand how the grotesque operates as an autonomous aesthetic category that is reconfigured in the digital environment. The main philosophical perspectives on beauty and ugliness, from Classical Philosophy to contemporary aesthetic debates, provide the foundation for understanding how the grotesque emerges as a language that destabilizes the boundaries between order and deformity, harmony and rupture. In the digital context, this aesthetic manifest itself, among other forms, in grotesque representations of the feminine, which question hegemonic beauty standards and cultural conventions. The film The Substance (2024), directed by Coralie Fargeat, serves as the central object of analysis in examining these dynamics, drawing on concepts such as grotesque realism (Bakhtin, 1987), the female grotesque body (Russo, 2000), and the abject body (Kristeva, 1982). The results indicate that the feminine grotesque in digital spaces oscillates between contestation and the reproduction of norms, revealing tensions between subversion and conformity. By connecting the grotesque with aesthetic education, the analysis reveals its critical potential, inviting viewers to reflect on the oppressive mechanisms that define the female body in contemporary society.
