Intercultural approaches to education in Kazakhstan: great gap between theoretical development and understanding

Abstract

This article is the result of joint research by a Swiss team and Kazakh to explore issues of cultural diversity in the education sector. First, the article explores the historical specificity of cultural diversity in Kazakhstan. Secondly, we offer an analysis of the concept of trilingualism experienced in this Asian nation in post-Soviet transition. Then the third part of the article presents various concepts used in the Kazakh context to explore cultural diversity. Finally, the article presents the orientations of teacher trainers from two faculties of Kazakh national university regarding multi-intercultural education.
