Abstract
This paper is to discuss, based on research developed, the relation between the new tendencies on thematic mapping with the support of Geographic Information System, and its relation with the tendencies from our time that are been called "post-modern". The spatial sciences have a spacial role nowadays, in which the tools and resources are presenting a great advance, making the GIS technology the focus of the research that are been developed. However, we are observing a great valorization of tools and not always of the goals, and a lack of care with the methodologies adopted, and, mainly, a lack of knowledge on scientific tendencies and a critical view on post-modern tendencies.
