Memory of the Linguistic Patrimony from M.G.: a Analysis of the Physical-nature Toponymic Motivation from the Vila Rica County on Historical Cartographics Records

Abstract
The toponymic study on the Vila Rica County is based on the understanding that a toponym, aware of his/her signic
role, evidences extinct behaviors, salvages memories of peoples and cultures. That study fulfi llment is related to the
corpora, surveyed from onomastic records of altimetry and planimetry elements present on the three historical maps
of this region, from the eighth and early ninth centuries. That set of data has been classifi ed according to taxonomic categories that represent the main motivating standards to the Brazilian toponymy that are identifi ed as physical and
anthrop cultural, and regarding their origin, considering the Portuguese cultural sources, African or Amerindian. The
found results have allowed stating the importance of physical-nature toponymic motivation in this study area, revealing
its preponderance for physical event designation.
