Dramatics of philosophy, or on a philosophical thought radically allied to artistic sensitivity: Agostinho da Silva, Plato of Collytus, Fernando Pessoa

The subject of this article is the conception of philosophy that is distinctive to the work of the Portuguese-Brazilian philosopher and educator George Agostinho Baptista da Silva (1906-1994). The aim is to define and characterize Augustinian idea of philosophy not as an analytic, a grammar of philosophy, but as a performative, a philosophical dramatics, in which philosophizing is also a poeticizing and in which the rationality of philosophical thought is closely related to the inebriation of artistic sensitivity. The argument is structured and developed through three approaches – etymological, epistemological and ontological – and through articulations between the thoughts of Agostinho da Silva, Plato of Collytus and Fernando Pessoa. The final consideration reached concerns an idea of philosophy as a poietic way of life.
