Memory and education: taking a distance to better comprehend aspects of current educational reality

The purpose of this study is to promote a widening of the comprehension of aspects of educational reality from an analysis of elements integrating historical foundations of education. For this purpose, this study is grounded from the beginning on the marks of pedagogic science, so that by considering education in a wide perspective, the problem regarding the relationship between formative processes and the variation of ways to think and feel the past and memory are thus established. In a second moment, elements comprising so-called “prehistorical” conceptions of the past are analyzed, whereas, as we move forward, a chart containing conceptions of history emergent in Ancient Greece is established. From a methodological standpoint, the article can be thought of as an essay which is based on bibliografical reaserch. As results,the comparison among these conceptions of past is made possible by a distancing of the current views on history, and it evidences elements that decisively need to be understood in order for one to gain conscience of the foundations of education.
