Abstract

Despite advances in ag(e)ing studies and the theoretical diversity and heterogeneity of ag(e)ing experiences, our society still faces the objectification of elderly people, indifference to their rights, and the dehumanization of their bodies. This thematic section seeks to broaden the space for reflection and debate on ag(e)ing, recognizing that the discursivization of a given topic (de)constructs the field of meanings surrounding it. In this sense, ag(e)ing and old age are understood as processes in becoming, crossed and constituted by alterity. The introductory article highlights the importance of addressing this discussion from a multifaceted, transdisciplinary, and critical perspective, one that values the singularities of ag(e)ing, avoids simplifications, and encourages dialogue. The aim is to promote the construction of proximities and distances among different epistemological fields, considering the heterogeneity of Brazilian scientific production, in order to expand the lens through which aging can be understood in contemporary contexts.
