Discourse Analysis of Two Portuguese - Spanish Bilingual Dictionaries by the Functional Systemic Linguistics and Critical Discourse Analysis Theories

Dictionaries, before offering meanings, have their own meaning. The objective of this study was to test the application of the Systemic-Functional Linguistics theory (SFL) and the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) in the discourse analysis of two Portuguese - Spanish / Spanish - Portuguese bilingual dictionaries used in primary and secondary schools in a region of Brazil. To do so, it was observe the textual elements of the dictionaries and applied an analysis model based on the three variables of the discourse (field, relation and mode) in situation context. It is intended to evaluate the pertinence of the theoretical models used in the analysis and to offer a discursive view, not less lexical, about the dictionaries used for teaching foreign languages.
