This article aims to discuss the rehabilitation of moral maxims in Philosophy, exploring their ethical relevance through a methodological approach. To this end, we will analyze the incorporation of these maxims into the field of Ethics by comparing the interpretations of two authors: Democritus, from the Greek tradition, and Ankhsheshonq, from the Egyptian tradition. Traditionally, maxims have been marginalized in Philosophy, often classified as mere wisdom literature. However, we will argue that the concept of wisdom lacks a precise definition and that so-called “wisdom texts” do not constitute a well-defined textual genre. Thus, we propose a methodology for accessing this form of Ethics, expressed through short sentences, by examining commentators who have sought to identify an underlying structure of thought across different maxims.
