Abstract

This article proposes to rethink another perspective on school violence records in the field of philosophy of education, based on the notions of “mythical violence” and “divine violence” according to Walter Benjamin. Mythical violence is the inferiorization of the other, while divine violence is exercised by power itself, without means-end categories. Both forms of violence can be present in relationships of authority, such as the relationship between teacher and student. The analysis of these notions in school violence records reveals that the silencing of these cases is often related to a mythical conception of power and authority, which can lead to the concealment of violence cases and silencing of victims, contributing to the perpetuation of this type of behavior. Violence has this characteristic, which is why it is generally within the realm of barbarism, as it means the refusal to solve problems through the use of dialogue or speech.
