The abstract of the doctoral dissertation entitled “Women and patents: the female participation in the requests for patents in Brazilian public universities” presents the studies performed by Da Silva (2021) on the contribution of women in patent requests in five public universities in Brazil: the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). The dissertation, written by Sergio Brauna Da Silva, was presented and approved in 2021, in the Doctorate Program on the History of Sciences, Techniques, and Epistemology, at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. The outcomes of the research conducted by the author carry essential contributions to women’s fight for equity and visibility, as they confirm the existence of significative inequality regarding gender in the analyzed patent requests.
