Abstract

This study analyzed the interface between Popular Education and physical education, highlighting how the principles of critical pedagogy contribute to an emancipatory approach to teaching. The qualitative study was conducted as a state-of-the-art review of scientific journals ranked between A1 and B2 by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, encompassing publications from the past ten years (2015-2024). The results indicated that physical education, by engaging with Popular Education, promotes the development of participatory methodologies, the appreciation of cultural knowledge, and the cultivation of students’ critical consciousness. Furthermore, the analysis revealed the presence of Freirean principles, such as dialogue and problem-posing, in the pedagogical practices examined. The study concluded that physical education, when grounded in the principles of popular education, can become a powerful space for social transformation and the democratization of knowledge.
