Abstract

This text presents an experiment in designing an observational and creative project involving Youth & Adult Education students in one of the municipal schools in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Consideration is given to the concept of teaching materials for Art that can be used as aesthetic proposals or "sparks" to stimulate the creation and learning of art, setting aside - for present purposes - the inescapable structures, conditions and physical reality of each place (school). Consideration is also given to the importance both of methodology in guiding those proposals and of the role of perception and imagination in the process of making art in the context of contemporary Art Education. Under the title Imaginary Cities, the project has discussed the creation of large cities or metropolises in an effort to engage with the places where the students actually live.
