Goiabal in flames: burning memories and creations to be reborn from the ashes

Abstract

What can an environmental collective that aims, in addition to the struggle for the multiple forms of life in the Cerrado, also experiment with imagery and written creations do in times of intense climate change? After a long dry season and recurrent fires in the region of the Minas Gerais triangle, the Goiabal Park, located in the municipality of Ituiutaba, was extensively burned. During this period, the Goiabal Vivo Collective, an organization that works for protecting this and others Cerrado biome areas, acting on educational activities, biological researches and scientific dissemination, had strong actuation. At this time, in 2024 October, photographs were registered, these were revisited and experimented between digital manipulation and poetic writings that came in fluxes, giving vent to the memories and affections. Aiming to create an experimental archive, poetic and creative throught the endured marks of that tragic day, denouncing the neglection with the park, the ambiental crisis, but thinking about the strenghtness of collective against such questions and the potential formations that urges at the interface between science, arts and education in order to articulate activities in the natural-cultural relations.
