Abstract
The visual essay presents a sketchbook where it elaborated practices of oil painting taking as references foliage plants found in urban daily life, from visits made to the Flower Market of Campinas, as by the neighborhood. With the notebook it was possible to create reflections among the speculations about the origin of the arts, saying that it was probably just the observation of nature with its colors, smells, glows responsible for this awakening, as well as thinking specifically about the invention of painting, as its creation is also interconnected with the vegetable universe given to pigments, the canvas itself or papers made of cotton. With the exercises of the sketchbook also certain elements that are studied by painting have gained highlights as forms, colors and their compositions.
