Abstract
The Cartographic Engineering Department of Pernambuco was invited through Brazilian Indian Foundation, FUNAI-Fundação Nacional do Índio and the Non Governmental Agency CTI-Centro de Trabalho Indigenista and financed by GTZ-Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammen Arbeit, to research a modern way for delimitation of indigenous lands in such way to guarantee prices, precision in execution and to shortening the period in the implementation of the work, because the traditional methods till now applied use old methods or techniques, consume very much time, overspend the costs besides to present results not very much trustable.
Then DECART had planned and executed the implementation and determination of Geodectic Points, and cartographic details from LANDSAT TM of the whole indigenous area, approximately 5.370 km² for study and analysis. To reach such objectives were used methods, techniques and up-to-dated cartographic processes in such way that later FUNAI can use as a PILOT PLAN in the delimitation of others indigenous settlements all over Brazil. This paper deals with the fully cooperation of the Indians during the field survey, the relationships of the surveying team with them and the social importance of such surveying for the indigenous community. To finish, are presented the conclusions and results of the surveyed area compared with the Descriptive Memorial of Governmental Decree.
