The distribution of the rural population in the Uruguayan territory has generated a persistent concern, from the agrarian geography we analyse the decrease of family producers (PF) since this population is related to a specific form of use, management and appropriation of the goods of nature as a base structure that makes the countryside a place of life, work and reproduction and therefore contributes to a specific form of rural culture. The aim is to approach the subject from the point of view of the PFs and their perception of the rural territory of the Northeast Region (RNE) of Uruguay. The results show the complexity of rural migration, emerging from a historical problem, where the interaction between five main aspects: cultural dynamics of the countryside, profitability, lack of generational replacement, availability of services and infrastructure and the expansion of agribusiness, constitute the main factors that condition the migratory processes of family farmers, interacting with other factors: public policies, lack of alternatives, lack of training and limited associativity.
