Ethics Statement

Policy on Statement of Ethics in Publications, Good Practices, and Improper Publication Procedures (*).

The journal Brazilian Electronic Journal of Mathematics (BEJOM), with electronic ISSN 2675-1313, is dedicated to upholding good practices regarding ethical conduct in scientific journal editing, based on the code of conduct of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). The prevention of negligence is also a crucial responsibility of the editor and the editorial team: any form of unethical behavior, as well as plagiarism in any instance, will not be accepted by BEJOM. Authors submitting articles to the journal declare that their content is original and guarantee that the work has not been published nor is under review/evaluation in any other journal.

Furthermore, BEJOM is committed to ethics and quality in publication. We support expected ethical behavior standards for all parties involved in the publication process in our journal: the author, the journal editor, reviewers, and the editor. We do not accept plagiarism or any other unethical behavior.

Editorial Responsibilities:

  1. Publication Decision: The editors of the journal are responsible for deciding which of the submitted articles should be published. The editors are guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and in strict observance of legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult the Editorial Board or contributors in decision-making.
  2. Fair Rules: Editors should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content, without distinction of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.
  3. Confidentiality: Editors and any member of the editorial team should not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the author, reviewers, potential collaborators, other editorial advisors, and the editor, as appropriate.
  4. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors should not use information that has not been published in their own research without the express and written consent of the author. Editors should refrain from evaluating manuscripts in which they have any conflict of interest resulting from competitive or collaborative relationships or any other type of relationship or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions linked/connected to the articles.
  5. Participation and Cooperation in Investigations: Editors should take reasonable responsive measures when ethical complaints have been presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published article.

Reviewer Responsibilities:

  1. Contribution to Editorial Decision: Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions, and through editorial communications with the author, it can also help the author improve the article.
  2. Timeliness: Any selected reviewer who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that their immediate review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.
  3. Confidentiality: All manuscripts received for evaluation should be treated as confidential documents. They should not be shown or discussed with others.
  4. Standards of Objectivity: Comments should be conducted objectively, and reviewers should express their opinions clearly with supporting arguments.
  5. Source Recognition: Peer reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Reviewers should also draw the editor's attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript in question and any other published document they are personally aware of.
  6. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have any conflict of interest resulting from competitive or collaborative relationships or any other type of relationship or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions linked/connected to the articles.

Author Responsibilities:

  1. Reporting Standards: Authors of original research reports should present an accurate account of the work performed, as well as an objective analysis of its significance. Underlying data should be accurately presented in the article.
  2. Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their texts are entirely original. Any use of the work and/or words of other authors should have been properly cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publication behavior and is unacceptable.
  3. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publications: An author should not, in general, publish manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously and/or publishing the same article in different journals constitutes unethical publication behavior and is unacceptable.
  4. Source Recognition: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be done. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
  5. Article Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should also be recognized or listed as contributors. The author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate ones are included in the article, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the document and agreed to its submission for publication.
  6. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interests: All authors must disclose any financial or substantive/material conflict of interest that could lead to influencing the results or interpretations in their manuscripts. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
  7. Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published text, it is the author's obligation to immediately notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the text.
