Collectible ruins as art materials

Abstract

The contemporary concept of ruin in a broad sense comprises architectural ruins and portable objects that have acquired the properties of the ruinous. This type of nostalgic, anachronistic objects, linked to peripheral, ordinary or apparently inconsequential realities are collected after the intentional search or the random encounter in walking practices that compose forms on the way, path-forms, or flaneuristic ways of organizing materials and knowledge. The objects in ruins organized in archives and collections from which the artists recover them as materials and install those in a new reality -that of the artistic work- are re-edited to metaphorically dialogue in the work from its marks, scars and traces since the artistic devices created. It’s a second chance for objects and from them, there is the evocative and connotative possibility of memory reconstruction.
