Zinga Journal: a critical, literary, informative, and recreational periodical of the Ingleses district

Abstract

Jornal do Zinga is an artistic proposition that uses the neighborhood newspaper as support, language, vehicle, and mode of territorial engagement. Connected to Ingleses do Rio Vermelho, in Florianópolis/SC, the publication is developed through walks, conversations, documentation, and editorial procedures that investigate elements of local everyday life in order to re-present them within the territory in the form of a freely distributed tabloid. By operating simultaneously as a publicly circulating printed matter and as an artwork, the newspaper creates a friction between use and artistic framing, drawing close to Stephen Wright’s (2016) notions of usology. Its circulation between the neighborhood, periodical archives, exhibitions, and pedagogical contexts expands its capacity to articulate art, media, territory, and everyday life.
