From Zapatismo to the Global Action of the People's: Art and Politics in the Kasa Invisible Occupation

Abstract

Kasa Invisível is an urban occupation located in the central region of Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais. The occupation houses a social center, a living space, and also provides space for cooperative income-generating projects. In this article, we will address social movements that are a reference for the origin of Kasa Invisível, as well as the experiences that preceded it in the city of Belo Horizonte. We are interested in the artistic and performative character of these movements prior to Kasa, in order to analyze the artistic intersections that occupy and have occupied said occupation throughout its years of existence. The objective of this study is to contribute to the understanding of how art can inhabit and contribute to spaces, territories, and collectivities, also opening up other possibilities of relationship with politics and the world.
