Studies on entangled life: a look at symbiotic relationships as a clue to the future

Abstract

This article discusses the creation of the short documentary film titled “Studies on entangled life”, related to a doctoral research project of the same name in Visual Poetics. The text traces an interdisciplinary path, engaging in dialogue between the fields of visual arts and science, drawing on authors such as Anna Tsing, Bruno Latour, Merlin Sheldrake, Suzanne Simard, and Lynn Margulis. When we look at other forms of life, such as the symbiotic associations between fungi and plant roots, known as mycorrhizae, beyond the pure wonder and admiration for their ways of being, is there also a search for possible paths toward sustaining our own existence on the planet? In this text, I seek to understand how artistic creation can provide imaginative tools for possible futures, by fostering connections between different areas of knowledge.
