The narrative in the image: sequence, plot and configuration

Abstract

This article offers some thought on the narrative potential of the images. An overview of the  definitions of narrative, confronting its particularities, unveils the latest trends of post-classical narratology. The question of the image narrativization is approached by the means of some artistic examples, which represent different relations with the temporal dimension of narrative. Considering the notions of sequence, plot and configuration, a typology of the still image narrativization methods is hereby developed.
