Thematic Cartography a Brief History Full Innovations

Abstract

The thematic cartography appeared successively to topographic cartography. It developed from the demand for specific
maps to meet the new requirements on account of systematization of the branches of emancipated studies with the
division of scientific work in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. This article rescues in brief notes, some
extremely relevant methods and techniques for the development of thematic cartography, as well as the cartographic
production field as an academic discipline dissemination of geographical knowledge. Although in essence the whole
map has a theme, the so-called thematic cartography has specific methods and theories, which have been incorporated
cartography in order to ensure the production of knowledge on the transmission of nominal, ordinal and numerical
information. The proposal discussed in this study, reinforces the idea that as language the maps are combined with the
historical practice and may reveal different worldviews.
