Land conflicts still persist as part of the Brazilian agrarian issue. The structural issues added to new elements of capital have resulted in new dynamics and territorial conflicts. In this article we analyze the problem of land conflicts in the state of Maranhão between the years 2001 and 2020, based on data from the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT), we conducted an extensive survey and specialized the information obtained. We observed that in the time frame analyzed, the state of Maranhão led the ranking among the Federative units with the highest numbers of conflicts by land. Involving a large number of families, these conflicts are directly related to the development model that has acted in the Brazilian countryside.
