The environmentally sound disposal of waste has become a significant challenge for modern society. In Brazil, this practice has led to issues in various cities. This study aims to identify sites of irregular waste disposal, analyze factors that encourage inadequate disposal practices, and use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to map areas with environmental liabilities in the Presidente Costa e Silva neighborhood in Mossoró (RN). The research was conducted in two phases: exploratory and descriptive. The exploratory phase involved analyzing technical standards (ABNT NBR 10004/2004), CONAMA resolutions, and reviewing relevant literature. The descriptive phase included surveying disposal sites, conducting field visits, taking photographic records, and mapping the affected areas. Results revealed 108 sites for construction and demolition waste, 80 sites for bulky waste, 52 sites for electronic waste, and 17 sites for urban solid waste, located in vacant urban lots, recreational areas, around public buildings, and watercourses. It was found that waste collection occurs every two days on the neighborhood's streets and public areas; however, additional measures are needed to address waste accumulated in vacant lots and peripheral streets.
