Spatial data analysis provides understanding of the territorial scope of measured information that study making it essential to obtain estimates of the occurrence of rainfall in regions. Considering the importance watershed of the São Francisco river of Brazil and for the contribution that spatial data analysis provides, analyzes of the spatial dependence of rainfall measured at rainfall stations were carried out. In order to ascertain the spatial relation of precipitation in the area in question, 231 rain gauge stations were selected from 1968 to 1983 and analyzed through the composition of semivariograms considering the monthly rainfall averages in each year. The results show a large difference in spatial dependence over the years, considering the sixteen years, six did not show spatial dependence (1970, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1978 and 1979), in the ten years that it was possible to adjust the experimental semivariogram model, different values were obtained for the ranges (distances), that is, the spatial relations vary over time. The variability of the spatial structure of rainfall in the region, and the analyzes contributed to understanding that there is variation in influence depending on the year on the behavior of precipitation in the semi-arid region of São Francisco.
