Despite the fact that is common to all studies on the change in the Forest Code in Brazil (CFB): the new CBF is less environmentally restrictive and more aligned to economic development, it is a fact that mechanisms such as the Environmental Rural Registry (CAR), the Environmental Recovery Program (PRA) and the Environmental Reserve Quotes (CRA) are tools which can contribute to recover part of the environmental passive generated by the little inspection of the environmental legislation of the previous version of CFB, although it was more conservationist, presented low efficacy related to performance, especially in small properties. In this regard, the present study didn’t focus exclusively on comparing changes among CFB versions, since the new Law has been in force for seven years, but also highlighting the positive aspects that can contribute to improve the management of environmental liabilities of rural properties. In this respect, CAR and PRA adherence numbers were presented, and was possible to trace a scenario of an expected recovery of millions of hectares related to interventions in Permanent Preservation Areas and Legal Reserve areas as the analysis, PRA implementation and instrumentalization stages of the CRA were realized.
