Abstract

In this work, we propose to demonstrate, from the analysis of the definition of some dictionaries and a theorist of Lexicography, how the term locution has been conceptualized. For this, we start with a dictionary of Latin language, a dictionary of Linguistics and some dictionaries of general language (of different ages). Then, because it is also our area of ​​study, we discuss the concept of locution, based on the contributions of the lexicographer Julio Casares Sánchez, one of the great references on the subject, in the phraseological studies. We note that these lexicographic works, at times, approximate their definition or that which refers to pronunciation, or tend to a grammatical and / or lexical classification. However, they always refer to the locutions as a grouping of words. Casares, in turn, regarding these units, also conceptualizes them as a stable combination of two or more words belonging to the scope of sentence, but he stresses that their meaning comes from the sum of the meanings contained in its components.
