Abstract
The presente research focuses on the artistic work “ESTOMACAL”, an approach to the vanitas genre in contemporary art, involving the practice of taxidermy and addressing the relationship between organic and industrial materialities. In the process of theoretical investigation, I concentrated on certain words, such as “ham” and its derivatives, seeking semantic openness based on their meanings – formal, metaphorical, adjectival, colloquial –, which would reveal aspects of the contemporary relationship with the sign “meat”, addressing how these words are used to refer to animals and human beings. Finally, the article uses the thought of John Peter Berger to approach issues such as consumerist culture, the aestheticization of death and the ontology of animals.
