Abstract
O emprego do Geoceiver na região amazônica, para fins de mapeamento, pode ser encarado sob três aspectos: a) sua precisão planimétrica; b) sua precisão altimétrica; c) sua operação.
Admitindo-se que se programe mapear a região amazônica em escala de 1:100.000 ou menor, a imprecisão dos pontos de apoio não deveria ir além de 15 metros. Este valor corresponde a 0,15 mm na escala de 1:100.000 e parece razoável, quando se pretende, obedecendo às prescrições internacionais, que os erros finais da carta não sejam superiores, em 90% dos casos, a 0,5 mm.
