Abstract
Se observarmos o mapa de realizações cartográficas no Nordeste, veremos que até bem pouco existiam apenas algumas ilhas realizadas pelo DNOCS em escala 1:10.000 ou maiores e o trabalho pioneiro, e aqui já de certo vulto, executado pela SUVALE, em escala de 1:25.000, além de algumas cartas isoladas em escala de 1:50.000 produzidas pela Diretoria do Serviço Geográfico (DSG). Mas esses trabalhos não tinham ligação entre si e eram modestos, em relação à área que se necessitava conhecer. Somente com a criação da SUDENE é que despertamos para o planejamento global.
